Plastic surgery on scars: marks can go unnoticed

The natural look is often overshadowed by scars remaining on the skin of human body after injury or surgery, by attracting unwanted attention.

Removal of scars

According to plastic surgeon Vytautas Jankūnas, this procedure can be carried out by means of special medication, injections, or by a simple plastic surgery. The choice of method depends on the size of the scar and its locations. However, the goal remains the same: the colour and texture of scar must be made uniformity with the surrounding skin.

The procedure of surgery (treatment) and the results

The method of scar removal is selected depending on its location, shape and size, sometimes several methods can be combined. The choice will influence the duration of surgery, selection of anaesthesia, and healing.

Possible methods of treatment of scars:

  • Removal of scars using special medications. This method is used for treatment of small scars, it relieves the hardened skin, unifies skin colour.
  • Steroid injections. They stimulate production of collagen and other materials needed for the body, thus the scar tissue and its surface is changed and significantly reduced.
  • Scarring can also be removed by laser, chemical means, and bleaching.

After the surgery

Removal of each scar is unique; therefore, the treatment is different. In any case, the plastic surgeon’s instructions must be followed.

The results

It is important to realize that complete removal of scars is impossible. Plastic surgery is only capable of maximum reduction of scars. Depending on the type of the scar and method of its removal, the results can be seen in just a week, however, in some cases it can take up to a year.
